A call for nominations to the St. Anthony Trust of Hartford Board of Directors
Epsilon is coming back. In July 2027, our Chapter will formally reopen its doors, and between now and then there is a tremendous amount of work to do — restoring 340 Summit St., finalizing our agreements with Trinity College and National, rebuilding programs, Ogilby, and setting the financial and governance foundation that will let this chapter thrive for another one hundred and seventy five years.
None of that happens without the right people around the table.
St. Anthony Trust of Hartford (SATH) is looking to expand its Board of Directors at the Annual Meeting, and we want your help finding them.
Why This Matters Now
We currently have a roster of 8 directors on the board of SATH. The bylaws say that we can have up to 15 directors, though checking through some recent tax returns, we have at some point or another had 16! Over the years people have stepped off the board and the vacancies they left were not filled.
The bylaws allow the sitting board to replace any vacancies, but do not allow us to expand the number of directors beyond the number of sitting directors from the previous year. The expansion has to be approved by Members in Good Standing*. If the vote to expand the board is approved we can then vote on both the current board's re-election and the additional directors.
All directors must be Members in Good Standing, i.e. pay your dues in 2026 or make a donation which is twice the amount of your dues.
We would like to eventually have the full roster of 15 Directors, and have a full and active Board — we want people who have never served on the board and want a board large enough to staff six working committees and comfortably meet quorum for the decisions ahead.
We have received and accepted around 10 or 12 names of people who have postulated themselves to volunteer for the committees and very much appreciate these dedicated alumni. Even with this we don't have enough hands on deck. We need Epsilon alumni who are ready to put in real time over the next 13 months to help get this chapter reopened the right way. We need a slate of candidates ready for our December Annual Meeting, where new Directors will be voted onto the Board. That means nominations need to be in well ahead of the meeting, giving the Board time to review candidates and prepare a slate. If you know someone who should be on this list — or if that someone is you — now is the time to speak up.
This isn't a ceremonial ask. Directors on this Board will be doing substantive work: reviewing legal agreements, managing capital projects, building financial controls, and reconnecting generations of brothers to the Chapter. If you've ever wanted a meaningful way to give back to Epsilon, this is it.
Some may consider that they bylaws do not require this and that they can throw names out at the Annual Meeting, but consider that versus being able to fill the board with the skills that we need and that in addition to that we always have a full board with those who bring the knowledge and knowhow we need to keep Epsilon alive into perpetuity. We need a diversity of backgrounds and both women and men.
What We Need: Committee-Ready Skills
Our Board operates through six committees and some sub-committees, and every nomination should speak to where that person's skills would actually contribute:
Executive — Board leadership and strategic oversight.
Finance — accounting, budgeting, treasury, or nonprofit financial management (this is our only committee with a hard cap, limited to one to three Directors)
Governance / Nominating — bylaws, board development, nonprofit compliance, recruitment
Development / Fundraising — capital campaigns, donor relations, alumni engagement
Communications / Marketing — alumni outreach, digital presence, storytelling
Reopening — chapter operations, risk management, campus relations, house/property management
Every SATH committee needs at least two Directors to function, and under our bylaws, committees are advisory — they inform the Board, but only a full Board vote (or unanimous written consent) can bind the corporation. That means we need people who are not just willing to serve, but who bring real expertise to specific areas above.
How to Submit a Nomination
We're asking Epsilon alumni to nominate others — or themselves. Self-nominations are absolutely welcome.
When you submit a name, please include:
Name and initiation year of the nominee
Which committee(s) you think they'd be best suited for (feel free to suggest more than one)
A short description of their/your relevant skills or experience — professional background, prior board or nonprofit experience, financial or legal expertise, fundraising experience, or anything else that speaks to what they or you bring to the table
Contact information, so we can follow up directly please complete this form
Please use the form, it allows all of the information to go to one place, especially given that emails and phone calls get lost in the mix of things.
Nominations are due by Monday 9th of November 2026, giving the Board time to review candidates and prepare a slate ahead of the December Annual Meeting to be held on Saturday 5th December, 2026 between 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
This Is Bigger Than One Person
Rebuilding Epsilon Chapter governance after a period of dormancy takes more than a handful of committed alumni working alone. It takes a full, engaged Board with the range of skills to match the scope of what's ahead — legal review, financial stewardship, construction oversight, and the alumni relationships that keep this Chapter connected across generations.
