Where Things Stand AT Epsilon
Dear Epsilon Alumni,
We want to keep you informed on the work the St. Anthony Trust of Hartford (SATH) Board is currently undertaking as we continue working toward the reopening of Epsilon.
Recognizing Amber Scott and Talbot Beck
Before turning to that update, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank Amber Scott, who has served as SATH President, and Talbot Beck, who has served as Vice President, for their years of dedicated work sustaining the Hall and their efforts toward the reopening of the Epsilon chapter. Under their leadership, the Board secured the building, made progress to restore its financial health, undertook a multi-year investigation into the chapter's history, and developed the detailed plan and Reinstatement Agreement that have shaped this effort. Their commitment to protecting future undergraduates has been central to the progress SATH has made, and we are grateful for the time, care, and effort they gave to this work.
Coordination and Communication
We are in active conversations with the Epsilon Unity 1850 group with the shared goal of creating a coordinated message to the broader alumni community. We look forward to a productive partnership with Epsilon Unity 1850. SATH is committed to reviving a positive and constructive dialogue among its alumni. We are also in ongoing discussions with both Trinity College and National regarding the rescheduled reopening and working through the various items connected to the hazing incidents that led to the chapter's closure in 2023. We remain in close coordination with National as we progress toward the planned July 2027 reopening. The Ogilby Committee remains in encouraging dialogue with Trinity regarding the future of Ogilby.
Governance and Preparation
We are actively seeking additional alumni to join the SATH Board and its committees so that we can activate the workgroups necessary to move the reopening effort forward. We are also revisiting the work of the Historical Committee to establish clear guidelines for the initiation of undergraduates into the Epsilon chapter, and we are beginning discussions on the process for selecting new initiates.
The Building
We are seeking to reschedule the significant restoration of the windows in the chapter house, an important step in preparing the building itself for the chapter's return.
Fundraising and Membership
Our fundraising efforts continue. We are revisiting how alumni are recognized as Members in Good Standing, with the goal of making that designation more inclusive of those who have provided significant support to Epsilon over the years and with a view to overcome technical formalities that have frustrated alumni in the past.
We are grateful for the alumni who continue to support this work, and we will keep you updated as these efforts progress.
Sincerely,
Andrew Whitney
For the St. Anthony Trust of Hartford.
